    Angry omg...

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i hate petco!!!!!

of course i didnt do my research before i got my bp, so i went ahead and baught it a petco.... the next day i pull him out 2 handle him and i saw and INFESTATION of mites!!! omg.... i went back to petco with the snake, they told me that a little of this mite spray would work. So i cleaned his habitat every night... i did everything they told me 2... of course a month and a half later im still stuck with mites.... i brought him in to petco this after noon.... the women told me that she could not do anything with the snake because the snake wasnt under there warranty anymore... then i told her off.... i told her that this was there problem in the first place and that i have been paying money out of my wallet to fix it. I yelled at her told her that she needed to do somthing about it and that she is not doing her job of pleasing her consumer and all this stuff... uhh omg i just went off on her and now i feel kinda bad for yelling but thats what petco gets for selling sick animals

I got my cornsnake at Petco too (including mites). If you got the product they sell there, it won't kill the eggs, so they'll keep coming back. You should get some Provent-a-mite (PAM), just don't spray it on the snake. A lot of people here have had sucess with it and some use it as a preventative measure for new snakes in a collection. Search for a thread on this (I'm sure there are many) to find out better how to use it.

    Re: omg...

i would try to get a refund, i hope you did not pay to much for your snake and invest it into one from someone on here?, mites are a night mare, if you decide to keep the animal get yourself some prevent-o-mite spary and continually clean the cage news paper bedding, with bleach water daily (and nightly if possible), once it is clean spray the cage down with the spray, and soak your snake, i would recomand a peroxide/bedidine (sp) soulition to treat any open wounds and help remove any mites on the animal. this will take a bit and needs to be done daily until all mites are gone. that is my best advice in your matter. hope it helps. you can order the prevent-o-mite online no pet store will carry it.

    Re: omg...

I got my reduced pattern from petco, i acctually looked at him, went home got some mite spray came back, told the kid that they had a big mite problem, and in the words of this kid "we aren't allowed to treat the snakes or any animal here for anything like that" i then asked what he was feeding the little guy and he said "we are only allowed to feed frozen" i asked what if they don't get started he said again "we can't do anything for them" so i took this guy home treated him, at the store then a bunch more when i got him home. finally while i had him quarentined for a few months i kicked the little SOB's. But that is the story i hear from everyone who buys at pet co.

I have another story about a woman who came into my Petstore needing help feeding her bp from Petco, i guess it had been weeks and the snake hadn;t eaten, and they just kept telling her to wait. she brought it in to us so we could try to feed it overnight, we offered a rat pup and befor the woman was out the door he was eating.

I dunno about that whole slogan "Its where the pets go" because most of the ones i hear comming from there end up DEAD!

They're need to be tighter laws on the abuse of reptiles, unless it's being kicked about and urinated on it's not abuse apparently. If you ask me, it's just discrimination against exotics. After all, who cares about those slimy little things? About 70% of the stores that supply reptiles don't know squat about them, it's important as the potential owner to know how to check for a healthy snake. It'd help too if you knew the laws about how far pet stores have to sink before anyone can do anything.

It wouldn't be that bad if the things that they overcharged for where of acceptable quality, eh? I hear some Petcos are okay though. Talk to Rabernet.
