    Securing a tub..

So my baby BP escaped from his Rubbermaid tub yesterday. Luckily it didn't take too long to find him, but I don't really want to risk it happening again. For now I have a couple phone books on top, but I know there's gotta be a better way to lock the lid. Anyone have any suggestions?

You can try binder clips to secure the top. I've seen several people use those.

I always used to use clamps like this:

You can find them in the Home Depot tool aisle. They have orange or blue rubber grips

    Re: Securing a tub..

My guy's on lock-down! LOL I use two tiny bungee cords plus one larger one (for the long length) and 12(yes, 12!!) large binder clips for the rest. Four on two sides and two each on the short sides. So far, no escapes. I have only had him 6 days though. I'm not taking any chances. Let me know if you want to see a picture. He's sleeping now, but I can snap a quick one off if you'd like to see. BTW I have a 15 qt tub.

    Re: Securing a tub..

Try to get more vertical space, if you can. Although my girl can reach the top easy, it's a lot harder for her to push up with much strength. I just hold down the lid with books. Then again, Cleo hasn't made a break for it yet, hehe.

Here is my tub set-up, all secured and "locked-down". I know, it may be a little much, but I do not want to have to deal with an escaped snake. My roomates sleep easier too. LOL I posted this for you (just in case) and I was bored.

Do you use a UTH for that? And if so, is it farely easy to keep temp/humidity at perfect conditions?

    Re: Securing a tub..

Actually, I'm using 2 UTH's (because we have A/C, and I could not keep cool side warm enough) I have the hot side on a T-stat and cool side hooked to a dimmer. So far, it keeps temps perfect. I had to use two Accurite thermometers so I would know what the temps are in the hides. I didn't feel like playing guessing games. The dimmer needs to be adjusted a few times a day (not by much), due to room temp fluctuations. I only had a problem with humidity being too high, so I changed to a smaller water dish, and will use the larger one at shedding time. I've only had my BP for 6 days so far, but it works for me.
