Maintaining proper humidity/temp

Julius is about to start shedding again - and now that I have a digital thermometer/hygrometer, i have a better idea of the temps.

However, I have a really hard time maintaining humidity above 45%. I have a CHE above the water bowl, and mist it plenty. There are no heat bulbs.

I have the top of the tank covered so that humidity doesnt escape - but this results in the heat emitter turning the tank into an oven (>100deg) and this still doesnt help get the humidity up high enough.

Does anyone have any suggestions? i could really use them!

I have the same problem. I live in an extreemly dry climate so I have a rough time maintaining humidity. I found this in the DIY section: http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules....warticle&id=53
I plan on building one this weekend to help with my humidity problem. As for the temperature, do you have your heat source plugged into a thermostat or dimmer? that will allow you to adjust the level of heat.

If you are really averse to going plastic then try covering the lid with soemthing like ConTac paper with the corners cut out.

You can find the clear variety at local drug stores or walmart etc and it is only about a dollar and change per roll. What is it covered with currently?

When I felt it worth sticking to glass that solved the humidity issues in a jiff. On the flip side once I went plastic it was effortless.

Or look for the sticky on tank set up that Jen did. It shows how to use tinfoil and duc-tape to cure this problem.

i am having the same problem right now and tried everything! ...today i placed a wet sponge in the hot spot and humidity jumped from %43 to %72!! i dont know how long it will last though. also today i am going out to get a small live plant to place in the cage ..that should make humidity ramian high without a sponge but im not %100 sure if it will work.

Unless you have a sophisticated and expensive temp and humidity system, it takes some tweaking to get everything just right. By implementing the ideas shared in this thread you can properly control the temp and humidity by tweaking the settings.

Be wary of wet sponges, towels etc - these items make excellent breeding grounds for mold, bacteria and a host of other nasties by sheer virtue of the moisture and the warmth you'll be maintaining for good husbandry.

Have you tried adding sphagnum moss that has been placed in water then wrung out. Adding it to the hide if you have room can help with increasing humidity. I read a post somewhere about making a humid hide to aid in shedding. I'll try and find it then post the link.
