What do you look for in a Ball?

Yesterday at the Hamburg, PA, show my son decided it was time for us to get a few Balls and see how things go. I have been breeding Corns & Milks for some time and know what to look for in a pattern and morph.

My question is, from what I see, normals seem to very quite a bit in price and pattern. What patterns are preferred? Or sought after? Is there any standards? (the other thing is what is up with all the weird names, “Alien Ball” ect.?) What traits do you look for?

The morphs are pretty easy to understand and pick-out.

We ended up picking out a pair, from a breeder at the show, that I thought had good bright, bold colors. I liked the tighter pattern. We paid what I feel was a fair price for them. They looked like ‘rock stars’ when compared to the $15.00 ones that are supposedly CB??????????

So what do you look for??????????????????????????

For some reason, I feel I will be building that new wall of racks very soon………….

Re: What do you look for in a Ball?

What you look for is what appeals to you. I do like brighter ball pythons, like you described, kind of like this girl:

Another thing that appeals to me about her is her very reduced pattern (lack of alien heads) Alien heads are those lighter areas on her side that often have two dots, making it look like an alien's head. She has a couple of dots, but for the most part doesn't have any.

I am also attracted to blushing like on this girl that has some lighter brown on her back, referred to as blushing:

This girl also has blushing that I like:

And if I can find reducted pattern AND blushing together, I'm a pretty happy camper! Like this girl:

Then I get one that breaks all my preferences and is just a nice bright girl like this one:

Some people like the stripes, some prefer ones that are more granite type, some like black backs. Find which one you prefer and you'll seek out the best looking examples that you can find! Welcome to the addiction .....er, hobby!

Now, to the important part - we'd love to see pictures of yours!!!!!!
