Striking and missing....

Sebastian has been striking at his pray, but completely missing it by a good 4 inches and just hitting the side of his tub.

I'm not sure why he is all of a sudden out of range with it. Anyone else have this problem.

I agree with Adam.

Are you standing near the enclosure when you feed? The snake may be defensively striking at you instead of worrying about the mouse.

Also, do you have proper hides, etc?

Without knowing anything about the setup, it would be impossible for me to say.

my Nagaina has missed a few times lately, but she quickly winds up and strikes adain, securing the prey with the secone strike. My thoughts are, she is still pretty much a baby is and is probably still learning how to do things best for her.

Mine have never missed. They just take a while to figure out what to do with it.

I have perhaps an odd related question. Nagaina is pretty good at the strike and coil part of the whole feeding thing, but she seems to have a problem finding the head, and always wants to eat the feet or tail first. I know they have instinct and all, but is it possible that it takes the young ones time to learn how to find the head without 15 minutes of seeking? Nag usually gets it first6 try, but Nagaina still has some problems. will it get better with practice?

I'm curious about the answers to this question as well.
Elphie always tries to eat from the middle first. It takes her a few minutes to figure out to start on one end, instead. She's done tail first 3 times and head first twice with me so far. But always tries starting in the middle, which just doesn't work! hahaha
I wonder if you should start another thread for this question, in case others are wondering as well!
