Increase the air flow. You can turn a fan in the room on or a light over the cage. Or even cut another air hole in the taped up top. See the sticky on tank set up.

I heard somewhere that fans can cause RI in snakes but it does sound a bit laughable. True or false?

I don't know the scientific facts behind that claim, true or false....but I do know I wouldn't want my snake in a drafty area. I would imagine that a draft would make it difficult to thermoregulate, even if the floor beneath the snake is warm.

However, a fan circulating air in the room the snake is in shouldn't cause problems...I just make sure it's not blowing directly on the cage.

    Re: humidity

laughable? no. i mean fans don't cause RI. potentially, with a fan blowing on a BP enclosure 24/7 RI could occur, but it could occur for a number of different reasons as well

    Re: humidity

Since RI can be caused by too low of temperatures, a fan blowing across a screen top enclosure could cause the temperatures to fall, which could cause the RI.

Oooor a fan blows germ- or some other type of poluted- air (caustic chemically stuff?) into the enclosure...things that *can* cause RI.

From what I've read, RI can be caused by a number of things, but it seems the biggest cause is improper husbandry.

    Re: humidity

what do you use to keep the humidity at the level it is at ? Can you reduce it any way ?

its a fine balance in temp and water in the enclosure to maintain a particular humidity maybe you just dont have the right balance yet.

I turn on a celing fan to increase the circulation in the room that decreases the RH some.

I didn't mean to mislead by the fan thing. Having a fan blowing right on the tank could cause bad thing. I jsut turn the celing fan on.

    Hope this cleared things up
