    Gotta Love Routines!

All these feedings under my belt and it never ceases to amaze me each time!

The '06 girls have been here about a month now, and yesterday morning, I saw little heads peeking out of hides, already figuring out that Tuesdays are feeding days!

Stopped by the pet store and picked up the feeders and set the Kritter Keeper with the small live mice near their enclosure to prep the area with the scent - these girls were ready before I came in the room, already in strike position. Little necks stretching towards the area the nice dinner smell was coming from.

Sticking with routine, I still left the mice near the enclosure for about 30 minutes.

Little Pretzel - was like RAWRRRRR - I'm a huntress - let me at them! That mouse got about two steps and it was over.

Nothing gives me satisfaction like happy feeding ball pythons. Not only getting your babies from reliable sources, but maintaining correct husbandry and establishing a routines is the ONLY way to go! I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I still get giddy with excitement when I sit down to Digei to record all the successful feeds each week!

    Re: Gotta Love Routines!

Of all the great advice Mike and I got here when we got our first BP, was the one about establishing routines and habits with them. It's helped make them good consistent eaters, I believe it helps them recognize when we are about to handle them, and when it is and is not feeding day so we don't get issues with feeding in the enclosure and getting nipped. Such a simple thing really to follow a routine, but such a major benefit to do so!

    Re: Gotta Love Routines!

Caution, breaking from routine has its hazards. At one time I had about 12 great danes and borzoi. Everynight I gave them their heartworm tablet and a milk bone for taking their meds. One night about 10 P.M. I was out of milk bones. I didn't think they would actually get upset. So I gave them their pills and walked away. As soon as they figured I had forgotten, Which took all of 1 minute they started howling and were relentless. Had to pass out my lunch meat to calm them. 1/2 piece of ham each and all was well.
Thank goodness snakes can't howl!!!! I stick to a routine feed day,but things happen.
