Re: Breeders
I just looked at 8ballpythons.com and HOLY SHHHHH... I didnt think they could get that expensive. I saw a Lesser Platinum for 35 grand female. I take it that that is normal :| ... I dont think i'll ever be able to afford a morph/hybrid

Re: Breeders
Look at the bottom and there should be a little window, and just click from the begininng. I think that will pull them all up.

Well you did look at one of the most expensive bp morphs there are...=)
Other popular morphs are not quite that expensive. For example, a piedbald from a reputable breeder will be in the $4-8k range (depending on the breeder, gender of the snake and the snake's markings). A normal looking snake that is het for piedbald you can regularly see listed for $250 male and $1750-ish for females. Not quite $35k. =)
Other morphs will range in price, depending on the type of genetics it takes to breed the animal, the availability of the morph and the gender (females are usually more than males).
One of the least expensive but still gorgeous morph is probably the pastel; many people who want to get started in with morphs will start with a pastel...or even an albino or het albino.
The most important thing in deciding where you want to go with morphs is to figure out what your goal, number one morph is and go for it. Now, if your number one is a lesser plat, you may need to come up with a number two that fits closer into your projected budget...but I think everyone here is of the firm belief that a prospective morph shopper should go for what gets you excited the most.
So, who buy from. There are lots of great ball python breeders, many who frequent these message boards (Ralph Davis Reptiles, 8 Ball Pythons, Joe Compel, Glass Reptiles, Cook Reptiles...the list goes on and on...no way I could list all the bp breeders who are here). And beginning now is a good time to start shopping since the 2006 eggs are starting to pip and those babies are or will be available soon.
*edit*
For example, here's Vaughn, a great contributor to bp.net and breeder, selling a lovely little pastel male. =)
0.1 ball python (Cleo), 0.1 surinam bcc (Carmen)
1.0 sunglow motley corn (Jenson), 1.0 albino burmese (Lourdes)
1.0 cat (Nicky), some mooses and ratters, 1.0 hubby (Rick)

Re: Breeders
Im not ready for a morph yet. I just got my first a few days ago. Im learning and researching as much as possible. Im just curious for down the road what they go for and where to buy. I thought keeping reef tanks are expensive (and that they are up-keep and initial cost) most expensive fish ive seen was a Conspic. Angel for 2500 bucks. Some corals can cost hundred and maybe thousands depending on size and rarity of it

Re: Breeders
to the site, there are morphs for every taste and budget. i use to have a few reef setups, the can add up in cost very quick. around 30-100.00 per gallon depending on your tastes. ball pythons grow and reproduce much faster than stony corals!

Re: Breeders
There are some insane prices out there...and there are lots of rip-offs and bad business people as well.
Places to check if a particular seller or breeder is "worthy" or not are:
- Ball-pythons.net Inquires forum
Good experiences, bad experiences...if someone's had either, we try to post here, so it's a good place to start searching.
- Board of Inquiry (or BOI) on Fauna
Some people think it's good and use it regularly, some people think it's just a b*tch fest. It's some of both, but definitely worth checking out before making a purchase from a lesser known seller. Note: You need to sign up before you can read the BOI.
