Can BPs go Feral?

Ever since Monty started eating again i have been very careful not to handle him the day before feeding, feeding day itself and of course, for two days after.

My schedule got a bit busy in the last coulpe of weeks and i really havent handled him at all for about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks. So last night i was gonna pick him up to just you know, watchi him move around out of the cage and he got really tense and started coiling around things in his tank and then he went into kill mode. turned over himself, mouth started opening up, so i backed away quickly. it looked like he was hunting, not that he was scared.

so to boil it all down, is it possible that he has gone 'feral' and i'm gonna have to 'tame' (for lack of a better word) him all over again?

Have you double checked temps and humidity? If husbandry is fine, then it's totally possible that he "forgot" about you and sees you as a predator. I'm sure regular handling will calm him down again.

Might be. See if his behavior changes during your next scheduled handling session. If he continues to act "weird," then his attitude could be due to lack of human interaction.

If he was fasting a long time and you weren't handling him much then and not much lately he may just not be used to you or he could just be having a "moment" and couldn't be bothered being bothered LOL. Maybe just getting back into a routine of short, appropriate handling at the same time every so many days will help him calm down for you again.

i don't think it was a freak out moment because he didn't flinch. he just calmly wanted to consume my arm.

i'll work on my handleing schedule and try to pick up the consistancy.

one more question.

for you big breeders here, do u guyz handle all of ur snakes regularly? or do you sell them fast enough that there is no need?
