    Re: Correct Terminology?

well provided this isnt a trick question :

I dont know much about the way herpers like to say it, but being as i'm big into biology (currently pursuing a marine bio degree) i have seen it mostly as "heterozygous Albino" or heterozygous for Albinism (yes it's a word... i promise haha) ... but if you say any of those i assume people would know what youre talking about

    Re: Correct Terminology?

I agree with Lauren it is "heterozygous for albinism". I am currently pursuing my degree in biology too and genetics is such a fun class to take. Either way we love our albino hets, het albinos or however you want to say it. Because they make beautiful babies!!
    Right?

    Re: Correct Terminology?

Okay, I'll try to remember to use Heterozygous Albino or Het Albino because "Heterozygous for Albinism" sounds a wee bit nerdy. The kids on the playground would probably beat me up for using it.

    Re: Correct Terminology?

As a biologist and a language freak, here's my take:

While 'heterozygous for albinism' is a mouthful, it's the most accurate; 'heterozygous albino' is also correct. 'Albino heterozygous', though, is just wrong -- 'heterozygous' is an adjective, not a noun. You'd have to say 'albino heterozygote' and, while that's correct, it doesn't actually provide any link between the albinism and the heterozygosity -- it could be an albino (ie, full albino) which is heterozygous for some other trait.

    Cheers.
