Quarantine
OK... OK... yet another question on quarantine techniques. I really getting interested in some Dendro. tincs. aka dart frogs and wondering if I would need to quarantine them. If I brought a new species like the dart frogs in to the collection, would I have to quarantine? Also would I have to quarantine if I got a veiled cham? Are reptile diseases species, or genus specific?

Whats up Cubby my fellow New Yorker!!
I am by no means a frog man but I would think for sake of your existing collection that you should not just introduce them without a quarantine.
You get me its just too risky. A disease that the lil guys might have might wipe out your collection. Just my 0.02 cents OK. Whats wrong you don't have the room to keep them separate? or is there other reasons?
See you around town

Re: Quarantine
No I can certainly quarantine them, but it would easier not to. If there is any doubt I definately will.

Re: Quarantine
I know it is a pain in the tush when quarantining. I always run a tight ship in this department. I even quarantine friends when they come over to visit!
People do not understand why I ask them to wash there hands BEFORE they touch my snakes. Inbetween enclosures and after handling. Ha ha he he
LOL, I have OCD about my babies (reptiles) health. You have to be though.
Just think what one little snake mite carrying a virus/disease could cause chaos at home. Just not worth it. Stay safe Cubby,

always quarentine, it is just as important as washing your hands...

PS: the majority of reptile & amphibian diseases are not species specific

Re: Quarantine
I would get the darts and the cham at the show in White Plains on July 9. This would over lap my quarantine time with all my BP's. I could quarantine the darts, cham, and BP's in the same room right? It is a large room, and the cages could be all 6 feet apart. This would be OK with some very strict rules right?

Re: Quarantine
if needed, they can be quarantined in the same room. just be sure to wash between cages!
edited to add: and personally i used "provent-a-mite" on every single enclosure before the critter is brought into my home... so if they do have mites... they are gone gone gone!

Re: Quarantine
The baby's are on one side of the room with the '05's in the other corner. CLose to 15 feet away. I will be sure to wash between cages, and keep a close eye for possible might. A gave each animal a 5 min handling/look over yesterday and saw no problems. And due to this increase I'm not sure the veiled is gonna happen. Thanks

I (luckily) haven't had to use provent a mite in a long time. But I don't remember being able to use that on amphibians. Can you?
