    Belly slit on baby BP

Just a quick question about our new and very young BP (btw Mike loves her!). We've never had one this young and she has the little slit on her belly. It's not open or anything but I've just never noticed it on Malachi who was just over 4 months when we got him from Adam. Is it more prominent up to a certain time after they hatch?

This is the 'belly button' where the yolk is absorbed. I see it on some of my older snakes too.

Thanks April. I've just never really noticed it as prominently on our bigger BP's.

    Jo,

Kashmire's was pretty prominent when I first got him and it faded as he got older.

Re: Belly slit on baby BP

yeah, a few of mine you can see the "belly button", on others you just can't. It is cool that they have em' though!!!! Right after hatching, they really do have the "button" on the belly.......meant to take a pic of it the last hatch season on Percy, but it closes up really fast and turns into the "slit" in a matter of days....

Re: Belly slit on baby BP

Well I really do need to measure and weigh this little snake, though I don't want to disturb her quiet week. She's tiny, has this belly slit and the sort of pinkish blush I see on pics of very young snakes so I'm thinking she's probably maybe only 4 to 6 weeks old. I've heard they lose that pinkish hue after a couple of sheds.
