    1 yr old bp

My Bp is now 1 yr old or close to it. i just measured phantom the other day and has now passed the 3 foot mark. 37 1/2 " to be more exact. I know all bps grow at a different rate than others but i very surprised at how long he/she is after only 1 yr. specially after reading about other bps that are only 2 ' in length and are the same age and sometime a lot older. would 3 feet be considered to be on the large side for a 1 yr old bp?

Not really. My largest female was around 44" at 1 year.

Its all about how well they eat....I don't really think in terms of length, but I'd say the 600-800 gram range is about right for a yearling with optimal husbandry. I picked up a 2 y/o female that was about 780 grams small about 4 months ago, and has already passed the 1000 gram mark and keeps eating like crazy. In other words, it depends a lot on how they kept, how much they eat, etc.

They definitely grow at differing rates, and I'm sure a lot of what determines how fast they grow is based on how aggressively they feed. That being said, people usually underestimate how long a snake is if they are just eyeballing it. So it's not uncommon to hear folks talking about their "2 foot" snake, when in actuality, it is probably closer to 3' or maybe even past 3'.

jlc, thanks for the help. i am pretty confident that my measurement is accurate. i found that the best way to measure my pb is to get her to stretch out along the edge of a wall/floor. that way she gets fully stretched out if i can get her to stay there. most times its a breeze.
