United 93
I saw that movie today. It was pretty intense. It puts back into perspective the type of people we are dealing with and what all those people went through that day, almost 5 years later the shock value of 9/11 has definitely worn off- this definitely renews it. Just wondering if anyone else saw and what they thought about it.

Re: United 93
I've not seen it, but I did see the made for tv one that came out awhile ago. I cried through most of it. I dislike that they made a motion picture from it, unless the profits are going to the victim's families. It just seems wrong for studios to profit from that tragedy. Although, I do think it's important for the reminders since we still have soldiers fighting as a result from those attacks.

To take that stance would mean in order to be consistent, you'd have to boycott TONS of other things in the mass media where people profit off of the tragic stories and events of others. I feel like we need to be reminded of the evil we're dealing with- better with a movie than by another actual terrorist attack.

I personally feel that not a single person in this entire nation has forgotten that day. It is true that we don't think about it on a day to day basis. But if you mention 9/11 to anyone they will know exactly what you are talking about. I personally feel that it is an abomination that this movie was ever made. My fiance and I will not bee seeing this move because making a profit on the deaths of those heroic people is sick and wrong.

Re: United 93
I lived 9/11 in NYC and will go see the movie at some point. My fiance saw it yesterday and for her it was more than a movie since her aunt was on flight 93. She said it was very well done and people were respectful in the theater. My feeling is, I don't have a problem with movies about actual events like this if they are done with respect for those that died.

Re: United 93
Ok folks...time to evaluate this thread, please.
The topic is one that just about anyone in this country (and others, I'm sure!) feels passionately about...one way or another. But this forum is not the place to air such passions. There's a reason we don't have a "free-for-all" type of forum where anything goes. There's a reason we don't discuss politics, religion, or other hot-button topics here.
We're here to share our love for animals in general and herps in particular. We're here to support each other and help each other learn. And if someone wants to share a particular personal difficulty they are having, we are here to help hold them up and be a friend, as much as anyone can across the vapors of the Internet.
There's SO much I could say on the topic of this thread...my heart is near bursting with it, sometimes. But I will not, because this is not the venue for such musings. If you feel an intense urge to discuss this topic with someone, please take it to PM's or IM's.
If you saw this movie and you want to say "It's great" or "So-n-so did an amazing job acting" or "whoever did the casting was a bozo" or whatever....that's fine. But please, please try to keep the topic on track and not derail it into what is or is not socially acceptable.

Re: United 93
As for Christie's question about proceeds, I do know that 10% of the profits will be going to the 9/11 memorial fund and that Todd Beamer's father has asked that people please go see it.
I'm not sure if I'll see it yet or not - for those of you that have seen it - is it that much different than what the TV movie version? That's the main reason I'm not sure if I'll see it - simply because I feel like I've already seen it by seeing the made for TV movie.
