    Want a morph. Price range?

Hi everyone. Ive been looking at morph pictures and I aboslutely love them all. I hope to, one day, be able to breed some. My question is, which would be the least expensive one to start with?

Pastel ball pythons are one of the least expensive morphs and a good beginner morph. It is a co-dominant trait, so you can produce visable morphs in your first breeding and you have the potential to produce super pastels. You still need to spend a little extra and get quality stock when getting a pastel....cheapest is not always best.

What do you consider inexpensive? Do you have any female ball pythons yet? Females take 2+ years to get to breeding size, so it is good to start with them first.

Re: Want a morph. Price range?

Im actually not planning on breeding for a couple of years, i just want one as a pet for now so ill probably go with a female. I have NO idea what the price range is though. I do want to breed them , but further down the line, right now I just want a pet

I'd rather not go over the 1k mark. I get about 2k back from my financial aid and thats money I can burn since its not in the paycheck so I don't feel guilty.

howabout a male het albino. they're about 200 bucks and you can get a female for about 500-800 (im pretty sure thats about right). you might want to look into them.

remember, never get a morph/animal because its cheap. it's better to save up and get what you love then to get the cheaper thing because its easier.

To be honest, I love them all. I'd rather love one and not be broke than love one and be completely ripped. Though I do understand what you're saying, I just want one for husbandry purposes right now and Ill love him as much as I love my normal BP Stewie.

btw, what does het mean? Not actually albino bt carrying the gene? Ive seen posts of 100% het albino's that aren't albino.

Yes, you understand right. It takes two "albino" genes to make a visible albino. A "het for albino" has one of the genes necessary. If you see "66% possible het for albino" it means that particular snake might be carrying the gene, but you can't be sure until you prove it through breeding.

I'd go with a female if you don't plan on breeding for a year or two anyways. By the time you are ready she should be up to size, and in terms of het albino for recessives you'll have the expensive one (female) already taken care of and then you can get a male later on to breed to her if you would want albinos.

    Just my two cents

Re: Want a morph. Price range?

Lots of breeders sell them. You just have to check around and see what folks have available. I would highly recommend clicking on our ad banners to start with...it helps support BP.net as well as directing you to some premier breeders!

Best place to start is browsing their websites, but many "available" pages aren't always up to date...so when you get serious about buying, you should also e-mail or call the breeders to find out if they have what you're looking for.
