    Unhappy mites in water

well damen does have mights and i went out and bought some stuff for it called "Natural Chemistry reptile relief kills mites on cantact as well as ticks" has anyone heard of this stuff i got it at petco? what would be the best way to get rid of them? the bottle says to spray it rite on him, i dont like that one so what i did was spray it on a wash cloth and just lightly rubbed it on him. Was that ok? any other info would be greatly appreciated thanks

I don't have experience with the reptile relief stuff, but provent-a-mite is widely regarded as the BEST way to be rid of mites. You can get it from Matt at MGreptiles here: http://www.mgreptiles.com/proventmite.htmlp

    Works like a charm!

reptiel relife works well for the animal i used it myself, its meant to be sprayed right on the snake.....its not a pesticide so dont worry...just be careful not to get it in his eyes or mouth it all..... dont bother spraying it on the enclosure tho, i scrubbed the inside of my enclosure with vingegar and then rinse and dry for a few hours while everything wood was baking in the oven I havent had them since

    Re: mites in water

Do you think Damen got mites from the bedding or from his mice/rats?
I use green astro turf but feed live....Im worried.
(we are only feeding live since we are pretty sure the people at the pet store lied to us that he was eating pinkies regularly. I wanna get him on F/T asap.)

well thanks for the advice, i just got done cleaning out his cage with that stuff cause the bottle said i could.. i hope that wasnt a bad thing.. but i think damen already had mites when i got him but didnt really se them untill his 2nd feed... i dont think they came from the mice at all i just think that since he already had them and i didnt know the just kept on spreading in his tank so i cleaned, dont think it could be the mice but you never know but i also hear that astro turf is good, but i use aspen shavings, it also helps with the humidity as well..

    thanks again

    Re: mites in water

I'd suggest you keep him on plain white paper towels for the next month in case the mites come back (you may have missed some adults or eggs). Keep an eye on the papertowels and on his water dish in case he starts soaking in it. We've never had mites but from what I've been told and read here, they don't get mites from prey items, as snake mites are specific to snakes.
