I love days like today...
Okay, it has been raining around here for about the last... 17 months or so ( or so it seems), so things have been a tad depressing.
Fortunately today was a good day for snakes. My GTP finally relieved herself after several weeks. She's notorious for being irregular, so when she goes it's a major event. My kids will constantly ask "Did Envy go today?". Anyway, she seems quite relieved.
That was this morning. Today after work I get home to check the snakes and found that my BCI, Black Milksnake, and one of my Balls had all shed. What's that saying about things happening in threes? So now I have three more happy snakes to play with.

Thanks! Wow, I just noticed how big Rita the BP is compared to her hide. I guess they really like them small! I'm amazed that she can still fit in there.

Very cool to hear! Yeah, out here in Reseda, CA, its been raining all day. Work was boring. However, I work at a guitar store and Richie Sambora whos a friend of ours called and needed some 3/4 sized guitars for some shows in Japan. My boss asked why? Richie said he was getting out of the shower, and stepped on a mat, and it slipped out from underneath him, and he broke his arm. And he didn't want to cancel the gig 'cause they were being payed and insane amount of money. My Granite Pythong is about to shed so I'm excited about that. His first shed since I've bought him about 3 weeks ago or so.

What a great pic of your son and Beethoven! Great to see a young man following in dad's footprints. Also obviously you've taught him how to safely and securely handle the BCI which is lovely to see. Our 14 year old is getting his first BCI this spring and we are really looking forward to working with Luke to raise Severus up properly.
The snakes all look great. That young black milk is gorgeous! Will you be taking pics along the way as he changes into his adult full black coloration? That would be very interesting for all of us to see. Mike and I are interested in acquiring a male black milk later this year or next year as the whole color change thing just fascinates us, as well as we've heard they are the biggest of the milks and oddly enough the males outsize the females (unless we've been misinformed).

Very nice looking collection - and what a handsome young man your son is!
I was in the pet store yesterday picking up feeders and a guy was dropping off his young BCI (not sure why he was surrendering it - didn't hear the whole story) and he was saying "I just want it to be placed in a good home". If the owner wasn't standing right there, I would have said "then you WON'T leave it here".
I ooohhhed and awwwed over it and then headed to the back to get my mice. I heard the guy ask the owner "do you think SHE'S going to get it?" John said "Nope, she's strictly ball pythons" LOL Then he asks me if I want a white lipped python that he's also trying to re-home. Nope, but if you have a ball python, let me know! LOL

Thanks! Both of my sons are really into my snakes (surprise!). They're pretty good at handling my snakes and helping me out with their cages, etc. Although Beethoven is one of their favorites, my 8 year old is still a little aprehensive around him because he struck out at my son when we first got him. Even though the snake was only about a foot long, my son never forgot it. Beethoven has been a big puppy ever since.
My 11 year old in the picture actually owns the other black milk that he eventually wants to breed to the one in the picture. You're right about the males outsizing the females, but I don't think it's as big of a difference as male and female balls. They're great snakes, although they're a little bit wiry when they're young. The color change is pretty interesting, too. When they're shedding the black is a lot more pronounced and then the red brightens up when they finish. And it seems like they take a lot longer to go through their shed cycle for some reason. I'll be sure to post more pictures as they get darker.
