ive been wanting to change to a rubermaid bin and i was wondering if you all could post pics of yours so iknow exactly what to get.

You can just use the plastic tops they come with or do you have to put weights aboce the tops? Also, Did those holes come with the tub?

Whether or not you need weights depends on your setup. I dont' use lids on my rubbermaids, but they are sandwiched between the shelves with less than 1/16" inch of space between the top of the container and the above shelf.


If the lids are very tight locking you *may* not need weights. If you think there's a chance your snake can get out, it probably can so err on the safe side.

The holes are compliments of your local dollar store soldering iron.

any shots of how you have the flexwatt setup? i'm going to be building a good one for my BP or my leo's i dont know which yet, thinking mainly leo's since it'd be easier to keep them in that, can put them in individual containers while cleaning and you just dump everything out clean the plastic and back at it again lol. may be going overhead lights as this site shows for the directions, or flexwatt i dont know, i always thought lizards were more for basking and snakes were more for belly heat but what do i know lol.

Someone already answered - but the holes were melted into the plastic using a $5 soldering wand from WalMart.


The lids have snaps at either end, but I also reinforce the sides with binder clips that you pick up from Office Depot.

I have 1 foot of 11" flexwatt on each. Basically, I just used aluminum tape and taped it to the bottom of the tub on the warm end. All three are being controlled by a Ranco thermostat.

cool, and here i purchased 11" for plastic thinking i'd need it all when i just need 3-4" lol, oh well the 11" can go on the 75g aquarium and the 20g tank i got, then i'm gonna build a rubbermade/steralite cage with overhead lighting for the leo's i think, get a big cage for them with alot of hides, that way i can have a ton of females in 1 and my male in the other that will be small

what do you use as a light?? or how do you keep it hot, becasue the top is solid and opaque.

there's a link here on the site, i the DIY section on how to cut the top for a dome light and screen it and everything lol would be using a flourescent light for my light and a CHE or basking light, but i dont know yet, i'm still trying to see how i should set it up, i guess i should just use a piece of the flex, under the plastic but i only have 2ft of 11" and only 4 connectors, 1ft is def. going on my RTB cage then the rest i dont know lol, i have a 20g aquarium then whatever totes i decide to buy . anyone keep any leo's in plastics? i'd lke to see, other than a rack system.
