Flimsy scales?
Alright, i promise i'll try not to post so many different threads in a short period of time. But i just have a question...
Now, i gave my red-tail a good looking over at the shop where we got him from and in my opinion he couldn't have been more perfect, but i noticed something later on that night that honeslty wasn't there when i brought him home.
Some of his scales are bent especially in the parts where he usually bends and curls. Now they're bent backwards so they're pointing out, not in.
Then tonight he was slithering over the edge of a cardboard box and some of his lower side scales got caught and got bent.
Now i'm already working on bringing him to the vet so i'm going to ask him but i just wanted to get some of your opinions. I'm thinking maybe it's from too much handling..
Anyone?

Re: Flimsy scales?
Boids often get bent scales from when they coil up under a hide.. or when just moving around. It's completely normal and nothing to worry about. Bigger snakes get it easier.
Just make sure when you handle him not to run your hands from tail to head direction.. that serves only to 'ruffle' the scales.

lol I know that feeling! 'oh no he moved different, he must be dying!'
'ahh she breathed two seconds faster that time than the time before, she must be dying!'
-that's a sample of my normal thoughts.

That's why I have to avoid checking snakes just before bed. If one of them is doing something "unusual", I'm awake all night wondering if it's OK.
