Does anyone here use cages from Animal Plastics? I have some questions.. the first being are they worth the price?

Is the uth source built right in? Like you plug in the cage itself (to the thermostat I mean)?

Do they hold heat better then a sterilte or rubbermaid?

What, if any, is the benifite of getting one of these over a regular sterilte?

I'm asking for when Hydaya gets bigger of course, right now he's just fine in his sterilite, but when he's full grown I might invest in one of these.

I just got 2 T3's from AP. They were an absolute pleasure to deal with. I didnt get the installed heating because I've heard mixed reviews about it. Instead I asked Matt at MGR for some advice on what I need to heat it and my order is on the way. I think they are absolutly worth the price! A little assembly is require, but they look very sharp and very professional. I am a happy and satisfied customer and as soon as I get my heat tape in and set up ill post some pics of my happy little snakes =)

I believe they are worth the money. They are made of a very durable PCP compound and clean up very well, you can use pretty much any kind of cleaning product w/o damaging the plastic.

The heat cable works great. It is routered into the bottom left 1/3 of the cage, giving plenty of surface area for the animal to cool off as well. The cages are well insulted, the heat cable maintains appropriate ambient air temps as well.

The benefit of these over a regular homemade sterilite setup is that it just looks a lot better and require less "tweaking" to get things right. I believe they also hold more consistent temps than other types of enclosures would.

I use AP cages for everything and we are working out something to where i will be doing all of their flexwatt intsalls for them which is an honor in my opinion.. Their heat cable does work very well but you need to let the cabel have a "burn in" period for it to work through all of the the thermal mass of the dense PVC. This also will save on your power bill as it will hold the heat in longer meaning your cable will not have to cycle as often to keep the temps exactly where you want them. www.animalplastics.com

I was glad to see this post as I just orderred a AP cage. I am ordering my Johnsons thermostats SOON!!! how long does the cage need to be set up before I can put Jackson in it? WIll it still hold the humidity good with aspen as a substrate? I ordered the T3 for him. I plan on putting several hides in it until he gets bigger. Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!! Connie

Hi - I was just debating this same question of what to buy a few weeks ago. I was looking at vision, AP, and boaplastics. I chose the AP in the end because you had external heating including the light, the look/size was perfect, doors were swing out instead of slides (not that slides are bad but I wanted the swing doors).


They told me about two weeks -- I received the package in about 9 days -- so less ordering time and that was just last week so we are talking even during the holidays. They were great to deal with and took the time to answer all questions including a quick one I had on it when I got it. The cage looks great and took only 30 mins for two of us to assemble from the point of opening the box! It was a breeze and I am VERY VERY happy with it so would suggest them!

I have only had it for a week -- so far so good on the heating. I am still working with the humidity but it is already better than the glass screen top unit I had -- so it is leveling out. I have not had to clean it after set up yet but just imagine that I will reserve 30 mins every few weeks and do that - no big deal -- I have a lot of stuff in there because I did get the T3 and my girl is small (23") but it is something that I bought to house her into old age.

I say go for it -- it is well worth the price!! Loved dealing with them!

AP cages are so amazing. Honestly. The temperature in my room can fluctuate by 20 degrees in a given day, but the temperature in the cage never changes. Also, the heat source is a cord so the entire area isn't heated, so there are "hot spots" for basking. I have a bag of aspen shavings in there right now and I will often see him strechted out along one of the heat cords after eating to facilitate digestion. Shahrazad is healthy as can be I am worry free when it comes to temps and such.

Thank you all so much for you insite, I think I'm going to go with getting an AP for him when he's a little bigger, after looking at many options and getting opinions these seem the best way to go for your buck.


However, the only toss up I'm having now is I saw a four drawer sweater tote rack at reptile basics for about the same price... course that means I'll have to get some more snakes because there's no sense heating all those empty totes... <innocent whistling>
