what r the pluses and minuses of using one?

hmm, well here are a few off the top of my head.

pluses:
built-in heat
built-in light
locking doors
very sturdy
easily assembled
will last the lifetime of your bp
many options available

minuses:
possible hot or cold spots associated with heat cable
more expensive than plastic tubs
heavier than plastic tubs

retort to the "possible" hot spots.......there can be hot spots with most any heat source....and with AP, the heat cable has some plastic insulating it so the reptile never comes into direct contact with it. You MUST use a thermostat with the heat cable though!

thanks just wondering (not getting any second thoughts, montys glass terrarium has just about had it. the crack in the side grows about a centimeter every day)
oh and i just ordered a thermostat from matt it should be here before the cage

Why not try some aquarium sealant or just rig up a sterilite/rubbermaid/iris tub for now until you can get a new enclosure? You wouldn't want to come home and find glass shattered everywhere and a cut up or escaped snake...

At least the silicone would help the crack to not spread as much. Just a suggestion though.

silicone sealant. hmrph..

I'd use silicone sealant, you can get it at any hardware store. After you seal the bottom seams, let it air out for at least a day or two before you put an animal in there.

I used a dry erase marker to mark the orientation of the pieces to help make assembly easier. PM Me if you have any questions about getting it set up.
