I am not trying to be rude, just giving you a few friendly pointers about web design and strategies.

1. Have your snake sexed, you can't have any credibility in the snake business, if you don't know what you have.

2. DO NOT tell people your wanting certain snakes, instead get your own. Do your research, buy from reputable breeders. You claim to be wanting certain Hets, bad idea. You will get a lot of unscupilous people trying to sells you "hets" at a "bargain" rate and ship you a bunch of normals. If you get your snakes from reputable breeders, then your snakes will have a good "Pedigree" so to speak when you go to sell them.

3. You can't really run a snake business you if you no snakes to sell, or very little prospects for the next 1-4 yrs if you are planning on breeding your on stock to sell.

Suggestion:
Make your site more of a directory for now. Link it to people that have snakes, cages, feeders, and husbandry items. This will increase traffic on your site. I wish one existed now. I spend a lot of time researching these items. Do not limit your data base to just snakes open it up to lizards and other stuff. Make your you only link to people with quality products and good reputations. You can talk about your own snakes, and describe projects as you gets breeders.

Money Making Suggestion:
Get pay per impression/click advertising to related subjects. Becareful with this, linking to Petco, Petsmart or like companies as this might damage your reputation in the Herp community. I would suggest a better alternative. Link to people that have a high end reputaion for months on end, like Adam, Nerd, Matt, Clay English, and Animal Platics. Link to them for free and watch your traffic grow as your site becomes popular. Not too many people are going to have any objection to free advertising. You could also ask for sponsors as your site gains noteriety, and generate income that way. Use that money to help build your stock with good quality well known snakes.

I am not flaming you in any way, just trying to offer constructive criticism. You bought the URL. You bought the server space. Market it differently until you have reputable stock. Aim to make your page an information database that all herpers would like to use. When you fianlly have a quality stock to market, your customers will already be there. um...he doesn't even have anything to sell yet nor his planned collection number. Why does "need" to have a strategy?? He is a young guy and while to some of us the site may seem premature, I think he's got agreat start just because of how young he is. He has plenty of time to refine, plan, and integrate how he chooses to conduct his future business.


Just a personal preference...click adds are crap, I can barely stand to be on a site with click adds or from google or what not...what an eye sore!

He has an investment made already. A lot of times people get into contracts for the site that are pretty iron cald. If he can't get out of it, he might as well redirect his efforts to getting his name out there until he has stock. I agree that the site is very premature, but that doesn't have to make it a total loss. In researching information to make it a directory, he will greatly increase his knowledge of herps and the community. That will help ensure his business more success when he is ready to start selling.

I agree, that is why I told him to becareful with it or go to a directory style. A lot of click ad choices would direct him straight to places herpers would really disagree with. Making a directory or database for herpers to use would be more useful.

I do feel there was a lack of planning on his part, but it doesn't have to be a total loss. If I were him, I would be researching many sites as I build mine. That will teach him a lot about the herp business, and about net business in general. He has already learned a lesson here. My suggestion was probably worded wrong. He might be able to make some cash doing it, but in the long run he will benefit a lot more from the experience and knowledge gained. He should also research any company he decides to link to on the Fauna Classifieds (Is that the right name?). I like the layout of the page, but it needs substance. That is something his site will be lacking for a few years unless he developes an interim strategy.

I built that website on a free trial to see how there site making software works. It experies on christmas day. I am probably not going to go through them because the backround patterns are blah so i just choose a color. also the best thing happend today. I found my sisters snake. well i will be doing work searching for some free software to make a website. anyone have any hints or good links? thanx
