Red face Re: Petland? what do you know

Hello Petland well i have alot to say about this petstore but we won't take the journey but tell you from what i see it's like haveing a bunch of babies working in a petstore, don't know anything about any of the pets they sell. High High priced, very low quality a women just went into a local one person owned petstore today where i hang out at and help. She asked how much would it be for him to order a spider of some kind and he said anywhere from 10-20. She almost fell over she just got done paying 150.00 for the same Ven. Spider from Petland, so i'll take my business else where, plus here where i live they pay $3,000.00 a month for rent. So you have to make money some where, they also sell dogs and cats a domestic cat retail at petland is 100 plus, dogs Puppy Mill exspress all the way to the Vet and a but load of money. They actually give you a discount on the first Vet visit so what doe's that say hmmmmm lets think lol. sorry for such a long post but u asked Thanks Aaron

Don't buy anything live, or anything that you could feed your pet. In my experience with the one in Janesville, WI, they rarely take very good care of their animals, the store is filled with sick birds, dead fish getting sucked into filters, and a large assortment of puppies that appear to be from mills. Although, they do have the usual supplies for reptiles, substrate, bulbs/ceramic heat, light fixtures, UTHs,... If I were you I'd check it out for yourself, all stores have different employees and suppliers.

Re: Petland? what do you know

We have a petland right across from us here in BR. While I have to say that the people are wonderful and the amount of items they have for sale is great, the quality of animals range depending on what you want.
Dogs/kittens- excellent. a bit overpriced but from a good breeder
Ferrets/Rabbits/Hamsters/Gerbils/etc- seems to be very good. They are all very healthy and the ferrets have a wonderful temperment and come already descented.
Fish- kind of iffy. the cages don't look very well upkept.
Reptiles/Amphibians- big no-no from here. Not only do they charge 70 per BP, they keep tons in one very tiny cage with only one hide spot and no hot/cold sides. The water bowls are not very clean and they do not help facilitate shed. They look unhealthy. The other reptiles and such seem to endure the same treatment the snakes do.
Birds-wonderful. they handle them on a constant basis and keep them clipped and clean.

    hope that helps

Re: Petland? what do you know

The last petland to close in richmond va was shut down by the department of health. 'nuff said.

Keep in mind, petland is a franchise organization and will probably differ from place to place.

Then again, how many good pet stores are there, really?

Re: Petland? what do you know

i purchase my small rats at the petland near my home in orlando. I always hand pick my choice and go for the obviously healthiest specimines. They sell balls but I would never choose to buy one here, the best place to buy is def. large reptile shows!

I agree. The one out here had a snake tank filled, and I mean filled, with mites. They don't know their @$$ from a hole in the ground. You could probably have a normal ball shipped to your door from a reputable breeder for the same price as what they sell them for too.
