    Fleas!!!!!

We just found some fleas on Shadow the pet cat. Now we would like to get rid of them. I know foggers are out of the question....I was thinking about the stuff you sprinkle on the carpet then vacuum up....any other ideas??? With all the bps in the apartment, I want to do this right but I really dont want to have to evacuate this house to treat for fleas.

    Re: Fleas!!!!!

Daniel if you google for natural flea remedies you will find a TON of sites. There is a type of stuff I used to use on the carpets so that our kids wouldn't be exposed to toxins in most commercial flea repellents. It's called diatomaceous earth though I can't for the life of me remember where we got it. If I remember correctly it dries out their environment (fleas LOVE liquid that's why they head for eye areas of pets) and naturally kills them off. When you vaccuum remember you have to tie off the vaccuum bag and get it out of the house right away or any determined adult fleas will crawl right back out and reinfest the area.

Remember to do your bedding and pillows in a VERY hot dryer to kill off anything and flip and treat your own mattress as fleas will be there if the cat has slept with there.

If you call any of the larger natural foods stores they may be able to give you more ideas or resources for natural methods of flea extermination.

    Re: Fleas!!!!!

Frontline... That's all I can say. If you're willing to spend the extra money at the vet, get the Frontline monthly for the cat himself, and then get the Frontline spray bottle. You can spray that on the cat, on the furniture, carpet, etc. It isn't harmful to anything as far as I know, except fleas and ticks that is.

Also, don't bother getting any of those "flea" products from the pet store/WalMart/Target/etc. They have been known to cause seizures, as are the flea/tick collars. Not a good thing for kittens and puppies, or any other animal/person exposed to them. The Frontline products are in no way harmful to humans or animals. The representative that came to our school responded to my question that it CAN be used on snakes, it is just off label. Gotta love it I believe the only thing you can't use it on is rabbits... But what can you use on them? LoL

Yeah, also Zodiac Kitten powder is also good stuff. My vet said he uses it under his snakes newspaper once a month to prevent mites too. He lives by the stuff.
