    Sterilite and Thermal Gradients

Im considering getting a sterilte tub instead of using my 20g glass tank. But I dont know if I can get the right thermal gradient. Right now I have a peice of 12"x11" connected to a johnson thermastat on the warm end, then a same size peice of flexwatt connected to a dimmer on the cool end. I have to do this to get a correct thermal gradient. Would switching to a sterilite tub fix this. Could I just use the one peice of flexwatt.

    Re: Sterilite and Thermal Gradients

that depends on what the ambient temps are in the room the sterilite is in really. it is definitely easier in my opinion to regulate temps and humidity in a sterilite tub, but its hard to say whether it will elimiate the need for the second strip of flexwatt or not without knowing what the temp is in the room.

It's constantly 75 in our house, and I use a 2ftx11" piece of flexwatt for the cool side and another 12"x11" piece for the warm side. Both are controlled by a Herpstat 2. Keeps the temps 94 and 83 perfectly. Even the ambient temps in the tub are perfect, low to mid 80's. It is a 39" long x 16 1/2" wide x 9" tall tub. Works well for me

I may switch to a tub. I dont think my ambients are high enough Im also having trouble with humidity. Would I be better of switching to a sterilite. Also I like the height on my 20g, it allow for my girl to climb on her wood. Is there any steriltes that have close to the dimensions of a 20g long. Also Im using a dimmer to control my cool side. I usually have to fiddle with it a couple times a day to keep the temp in the good zone. Would another thermastat be worth it.

Try going to a Big Lots, Walmart or Target in your area, there are a billion different sizes. I went with a 41 quart sweater box because with the research that I did I thought that my ball would be better with a lower roof. From what I understand it helps them feel more secure. You may want to look thru the various threads here. I found a lot of info just by searching the threads.

    Re: Sterilite and Thermal Gradients

I went to target and got a 54qt sterilite tub. I went with a taller roof just because it will allow her to climb on her wood like she likes to do. The lid seems a bit loose for a snake. Has anybody else noticed this.

A lot of people seem to use bungee cords, or clips to secure the top down. Better to be safe than sorry!

Should a single peice of 11" flexwatt work. The tub is 16" wide but the flexwatt is only 11" wide. Also the tub is 23" long and I use 2 peices of flexwatt for heating should I put both peices completely under the tub.
