Should I breed her?
I have a loverly 5.5' hogg island boa female that I would like to breed. The one thing is, she has a nose rub. A pretty nasty one. Would it be a bad idea to breed her when she has this nose rub?
Otherwise she's very healty. NEVER refused a meal, sheds perfect every time, and as you can see, quite chunky.

Re: Should I breed her?
She had it when I got her, though not as bad.
She was in a 30g tank with a screen lid (bad) and she didn't like it. So, she rubbed her nose on the lid. Ouch. I covered the inside of the lid with fleece, except for about 4" on one side for ventilation. She found the 4" with her nose. Ouch.
I moved her to a honkin' big sterilite tub. She found a sharp edge with her nose. Ouch.
I bought her an expensive 4' boaphile cage and she found a seam with her nose. Ouch.
Now.. I THINK she's settling into her 4' palace and has stopped rubbing. I haven't heard her bonking her poor little nose anymore.

Shelby,
The rub shouldn't hurt breeding. The clutch will show no signs of her nasty nostils there. The worst possible thing you might get is a clutch full of nose rubbers (wow does that sound bad).

That's what I thought, Lars. Thanks.
I was more worried about undue stress on her part.. but seems she'll nose rub whatever I do.

Re: Should I breed her?
On second thought, breed under close supervision if possible. The male snake may be put off by her odd behavior and be more opt to get aggressive, or maybe take the wrecked honker as a sign of weakness and be more opt to get agressive. Those were the only drawbacks I could really see to putting her with another snake.
Would you date someone who banged thier head against a window for odd reasons even though it caused them to injure them selves?
