hey im new to this site, i just got a baby ball pyhton im just wonder, he doesnt seem to be moving alot, or at all sometimes, i place him down in one spot and he seems to just stay there, i have him in a 30 gallon tall which is liek the same as a 20 long with about 5 inches on the top, i am just wodneirng if he is stressed form being new or if he is just a newborn , hes under 2 feet , could that be the reason?

He's just being a ball python. They are not the most active pets in the world

Make sure your temps are correct with a good digital thermometer ... 82-84 on one side, 92 - 94 on the other. Clean fresh water and at least one hide box on each side of the tank and you'll be fine.

Also being nocturnal you may not see much activity in the day at all.

Ours are pretty much quiet through the day but come about 10pm or so theres all kinds of thumping around coming from the enclosures.

Well I'm no expert on snake behaviour but it kind of makes sense that if you are a little baby snake and something puts you down in the open part of your tank, you might just freeze up and not move to avoid detection and possibly being eaten.

Maybe try when you put the snake back in it's enclosure to place it so it's very near one of it's hides so it can easily get under cover. Also step back a bit and I'm betting little snake will make a nice dash for what it considers safety and security.

Like Adam said, they aren't terribly active creatures anyways especially during the daytime. Ours never much comes out of it's hides till dusk. (Oh for the life of a pet snake LOL).

I just got a new baby ball python, too. He seems to be more active at night. Really early morning, he was crawling all around the cage, but later this morning, I tried to take him out of a tube he was sleeping in, but he didn't want to come out. I think it's just that they're nocturnal. I would keep watching it though, especially late at night or early morning.

What are your temps? Probably too cool. Make sure you are using a good digital thermometer to measure temperatures ... the plastic analog things suck!

I'd highly suggest getting those temps up to about 94 warm side to upper 80's cool side.

i second that sudgestion. get the tenps up and u should see a change in your snakes behavior.
