    Goes beserk when feeding mice

Hi all, I haven't posted for a reeeeeeaaally looong time. Mainly because you guys have been wonderful, at educating me, so I have almost no questions left to ask. But I still read everybody elses post. Anyways I just wanted to share something with you guys. My BP, Piston, has been a really good boy (I hope girl) and has switched to rats pretty succesfully. However today, I was unable to find a rat at the appropriate size, so I got a mouse instead. He has never hesitated to take a mouse. The second I threw the mouse in his feeding box with him, he striked, and killed the mouse in 2 seconds! He started swallowing in the 3rd or 4th second, which is crazy, since he used to constrict for at least minute to make sure the mouse is dead. I guess, since I have been feeding him proper size meals every time, I never realized how big and powerful he's gotten.

    Heres my question,
when I feed rats, he always calculates and strikes at the head. But if I put a mouse in there, he jumps at it, like there is no tomorrow. He doesn't care about where he strikes, or anything else for that matter. He takes rats just fine, but you guys should see him, when I give a mouse. He gets so fired up, and excited. Even after he finished eating, he gets super active. He gets in a total killa mode, even I get intimidated..lol. DO anybody else have the same experience. I like to feed rats cause he really bulks up, and it's more of a appropriate size meal. But he seems to love mice with a passion. What do you guys think I should do?

I think you should feed your animal what it prefers AND what is most convient for you. Sometimes those two options contradict themselves and sometimes they do not.

Why do you feel the need to "bulk" him up? Is there some type of rush?

No particular rush. I only feed once a week, it's just that, I like that my baby is growing up. I am strongly against power feeding, but I can't wait until he's fully grown. Rats just seem better for him, and I'm not too sure about feeding multiple prey at the same time. I personally prefere one adequite size meal than 2 or 3 small ones, mainly because I have no experience with multiple prey, and I don't know how Piston is going to react to it.

Just to clarify. You feed each item independantly...not at the same time.

Feeding multiple prey is not really rocket science Everything is the same as feeding one prey item...but you do it twice. Not really any experience needed. It is just that simple.

I like multiple prey and it suits me just fine. Like Adam said, do what is best for you and your snake. Personally, I would feed multiple mice just for the fact that the feeding responce is better....but that is just opinion.
