Dragging a meal back in the hide

well, that's twice in a row now... last week Trigger dragged the mouse back in the hide... i thought it was kinda weird, but can't really blame him since i like to watch (who doesn't? it's facinating)... but this time he did it again & i dunno how he's gonna find the head, since the head is still stickin outside of the hide

ohhhh wow, i guess i spoke...er - typed... too soon, he just found the head, wrapped his mouth around it & brought it into the safety of the den

any of you guys have snakes that do this?

EDIT: hah!!! guess the hide was too small for the both of them in there, now he's got his head & neck out of the hide & eating the mouse that's IN the hide

and on a side note, even though he missed, i was almost frightened at how strong he struck at the mouse the first time... he packed quite a punch for such a little guy... hit it almost just as hard the second time & snatched that thing right outta my tongs

yep. it is really cool when they take the mouse from inside the hide and pull it back in real fast. Kinda like a 'monster in the darkness' haha. just jumps out and graps someone then disappears.

Half in the hide. half out the hide. I have seen that a few times and said to myself....man, that does not look comfortable to eat like that. but everything always goes down ok. At least he is eating.

My BP does something like this too. We buy frozen rodents in packages of 50 or 100, so he's "outgrown" a single serving of a particular size before we run out of them. Following some advice I picked up here I opt to feed him multiple smaller items.

Typically he strikes the first prey item like he's never going to eat again. And based on how big it is and/or how much trouble he has getting it down, he will either strike #2 and #3 or I just place them outside his hide and he sneaks out and snarfs them down within about an hour or so. Most of the time he pulls it just inside the door of the hide and works on it there.
