Blood python or Sumatran short tailed?

    Hi guys,

I purchased my first blood python a few weeks ago and I was told that it was a black blood python. I know Sumatran short tails are known as black bloods so I was just wondering could I have obtained a Sumatran instead of a blood?

I want to breed in the future aswell so would I have to breed it to a Sumatran short tailed or would it be able to breed to bloods aswell?

Re: Blood python or Sumatran short tailed?

Short tail pythons have three different species available in the hobby. I'd recommend you put aside thoughts of breeding and spend more time learning about them if you can't tell the species apart and don't know what you bought. Any place selling a "black blood python" is one I'd be running the other way from. Post a pic and we can tell you what you have. It's probably a SSTP but who knows.

    2.0 Python brongersmai
    1.1 Python breitensteini
    1.0 Python curtus
    1.0.1 Python regius
    1.0 Acrantophis dumerili
    1.0 Boa constrictor
    0.1 Heterodon nasiscus nasiscus
    0.0.1 Pantherophis guttatus
