Putting smaller tubs in V180

I was wondering if you guys think I can wire the heat cable in the v180, and just rest the smaller tubs on top of the heat cable on the shelf. I figured I could place the thermostat temp sensor in an empty tub on top of the heat cable to adjust the temp. What do you guys think?

So basically I am trying to find a way to house 6 snakes in the V180 setup from hatchling to adult. This idea of placing smaller tubs on the heat cable in the shelf, is a solution that I came up with that I believe will work. My only worry is that something will happen to the heat cable that is sort of out in the open. I can always put the tubs in on the shelves that wont have smaller tubs on them. I think putting the temp sensor in an empty tub will allow me to adjust the temperature pretty accurately. Another question I have is which tubs with locking lids should I get? also for the larger tubs with locking lids, do I need to reinforce the lid with bungees or anything? The tubs for sub-adult should be about 36"x24." I just dont know if the snake will be able to push open the lid enough to get out.


I've never used tubs, and am a complete noob when it comes to tubs and snake husbandr. So the TLDR of this is: Can I put smaller tubs on the V180 shelves wiht the heat cable in the shelves, and use that to heat my Tubs?

Do you already have the rack?

If not, there are racks that are designed to have interchangeable tub sizes. This might work out better for you and alleviate some of the concerns mentioned.

If you do already have it, the main issue with the setup you described would I think be stabilizing temps. Since some parts of the rack would be more enclosed than others I think you might have a hard time with consistency using only one heat source.

I was thinking the same thing about the temps. But I figure that If I only use one shelf and have the Temp sensor actually in one of the tubs Ill be using would allow for enough temp control for that shelf. I wouldnt use more than one shelf, as I only plan on buying 1 or 2 more snakes before the year is up. But I have looked at the CB-70 and the VE6 from Reptile basics. Basically I got a deal on the V180 that I couldn't pass up. I've been debating on selling the V180 so I can get the rack I need, but eventually I will need the V180 for the snakes I plan on keeping. I dont think I will ever be able to find another V180 for $400.


Another thing I could do is place the temp sensor next to the heat cable to read the temp that the cable is. What do you guys think?
