This right here is what I was saying

They were complaining that the heat pads barely worked, so it was probably 110 and barely felt warm to them. People seem to think that a heat pad means that it will feel hot, when that really isn't the case.

I would never, ever trust my own had as a way to test a heat pad.

Ok, let me tell from my own personal experience as to why you should not use a human heating pad for a ball python. I once rescued a big male normal and I didn't have a zoo med heating pad so I thought I would use my human heating pad to heat the tub for the snake. Well, the human heating pad burnt a nice sized hole in the bottom of the tub. I was dumb and I learned the hard way. That is why you should NOT use it. No, the snake was not harmed, but that is neither here nor there. Just DON'T do it!

just to put in my .02 I used a human heating pad. I took the control feature off connected the wires. it does get really hot really fast like that but I also had it hooked up to a thermostat as well. I am still not saying to use one. I was broke at the time I did this and had a zoomed pad cord break on me. but without the controler on the human heating pad the heating pad does get way too hot and the cords being put together can cause a fire

I know this is an old thread but I thought I would reply for people who still use the search feature. I've used human heat pads on my tubs for years without an issue. I just put it on a thermostat which turns off the pad at a certain temp. I have had no problems at all. I also know other snake owners who use this method.

Because you do something for years and it works for you does not mean it is the proper advice to give a new owners, there are people that have kept animals for years with a heat rock as well, still does does mean it should be recommended.

We don't recommend cutting corners, we recommend proper husbandry, which means constant heat that is monitored and provided by products that are meant to run 24/7 without becoming a fire hazard.
