I went to the mall tonight and of course checked out their snakes and I was amazed!! 2 of their snake were shedding one of them was a red tail and part of his shed was in the water dish and the other was coming off in pieces and a large piece was on his head all bunched up. On his back it looked like there was something wrong It almost looked like blisters. Then there was a retic who was shedding horribly again coming off in pieces, and there wasn't even a water dish in it's tank. Is there anywhere I can report this kind of stuff?
I asked the guy what the deal was and he told me "they're shedding it's completely normal" I explained to him that the shed not being in 1 pieces was not normal. He really didn't seem to care, and didn't have a reason why the retic didn't have water.

It's the sad truth that this is common in all but the best pet stores. You could try talking to the manager.. but who knows.

Isn't this some sort of animal abuse?

Well.. most people don't realise that snakes not shedding in one piece is not normal. So I would not say that's abuse, but ignorance.

An absence of water for the snake is getting there though. You have to realise that a lot of the animals these guys get are imports. They are stressed and most are unhealthy when they get them. They may look less than healthy in even ideal conditions for a time.

I don't doubt they don't take proper care of them though. It's a rare pet store that does unfortunately.

This is sad, but if you reported it to an ASPCA, I dont think a stuck shed is enough to have them come out. I mean heck, if someone called ASPCA on me everytime my snake didn't shed perfectly, id have already paid 2,000 worth of fines (its like 500 for animal neglect), and I'm sure alot of us can say that too. Some snakes just don't shed well, despite good humidity and care, SCSnakeman has a 54 inch BP that has never had a good shed, and he always soaks her and stuff too.

But the water thing....all the ASPCA are gonna do is tell them to is put some water in, as long as there water isn't like moldy, and they aren't slithering in their own feces, I don't think there is much the ASPCA can do...sad though.

I was mainly talking about the one snake not having water, and the one that looked like it had blisters on it. I know not much can be done about the poor shedding.

it all depends on what state you/the pet store are in.
    And what laws may apply
