She laid slugs
This was my first attempt at breeding. I bought a proven pastel female last year that was ready to start breeding and paired her with my pied male. I only witnessed one lock but I suspect at least one other as well. She laid her clutch a few weeks ago and when I candled them I saw that they were all slugs.
What would cause her to lay a clutch of slugs? Should she be given this next season off or will she be ready to try again?
thanks

So disappointing. :-( Can't offer any suggestions as I have no breeding experience, just wanted to offer my sympathy. :-(

It happens sometimes. It's called bad luck.

Too high temps (94+ F) will definitely slug out entire clutches of eggs in vivo. Get a couple hot days and you might have trouble.

High temps can play into this, also with the males. But I have had many perfect clutches being laid in higher temp days...

There are several reason for slugs too high of temps, fertility issue with the male, female being too fat etc
It just happens and there is always next year, I have gone from all slugs to 10 good eggs the following year if that makes you feel better.
We are breeding living creature not everything goes as plan and this is not the worst that could have happen.
