Re: Finally making progress... Kinda of lol

I'm sorry but I find it quite comical to blame a bad shed versus not just due to the fact that mine has the tiger gene in it. I don't know why I even care but I feel that there is more to say than just adding in a tiger gene magically takes away a supposed shedding issue with GC's. I would venture to say there is some other issue like humidity prior to shed cycles. I don't consider myself an expert by any means, but I feel like I do have a little common sense when it comes to this issue. All I'm getting at is if you are worried about not having a full shed with your GC don't settle on an answer that mine has tiger in it and yours doesn't. There is something else there, the tiger gene isn't the magic fix!! When I first got my Burmese the first 2 sheds where in pieces after I fixed the humidity the issue has completely gone. My lavender sunfire had a bad shed when I first got her, since then they have been complete sheds. So, I have corrected issues with sheds, my snakes haven't came to me with zero issues. Like I said I am extremely OCD when it comes to getting one piece sheds. I just feels like your husbandry is on point when you get them.

Actually the topic isn't about snake shed or Golden Childs it's about an enclosure temperature and humidity . If your snake sheds in one piece like you say it does good for you topic was brought up about Golden child's not shedding in one piece I heard that too you're one person voicing your opinion not a group of people saying differently my husbandry it's pretty spot-on and when its not I ask questions that's the whole point of this forum..

Actually the OP never mentioned bad sheds with GC. I just asked as he had one and i have seen about 6 or 7 other people on the retic FB pages who all have issues with their GC always having shedding issues. i cant see all these people all having the same 'problem' unless it is something to do with GC. And i was told by a couple people that in fact, GC do have shed issues just like i have been told by a lot of people that the tiger gene makes for larger snakes.

I was simply throwing out perhaps the tiger gene had something to do with it maybe. Not sure myself and i too wouldnt think so but who knows.

And to let you know, humidity prior to shed as in when the snake is in 'blue' has nothing to do with shedding and actually can create more issues as that 'blue' is actually their body oils between the 2 layers of skin. So giving a snake a soak or bath while in blue can create a bad shed. Now after blue when the oils and liquids have been reabsorbed into the body, then soaking is fine but again, external soaking isnt going to do much either. Bad sheds are usually due to either health issues, stress, a lack of hydration IN the snake as snakes arent amphibians and dont absorb liquid through their skin, or to an extent humidity. Heck, a lot of people keep their snakes with 60% humidity and have fine sheds. I mostly keep higher humidity because of their lung as too low of humidity can cause the lining to dry out and crack which can lead to an RI.

Bottom line a shed coming off in a couple pieces or 3 isnt a big deal as long as the eye caps and tail tip come off. I just threw out the shed issue with GC as like i said, i have been told by a lot of people and read a lot of people having the issue with only their GC and none on their other retics so i wanted to ask the OP if he had the same issue.

I am always trying to learn more about every snake. I personally think i am fairly knowledgeable ( at least enough to make me dangerous lol) but i can ALWAYS learn more and want to.

I don’t know if you feel I was taking a shot at you but that wasnt the case. As you stated, I was voicing my opinion. Nothing personal was supposed to be taken from my opinion. As for this post being about an enclosure I was just following the trend and it seemed like it had progressed to a shedding issue you were trying to figure out. I’m all about asking questions I’ve got plenty myself. Anyways sorry for ruffling your feathers that wasn’t my intentions.

Yeah no worries the topic is enclosure temperature and I just didn't want to get off topic..
With that being said I set temperature for 84.5 80% power and for whatever reason 12 hours later I checked the temperature and it was still too hot on the hot side.. I'm thinking Probe placement is a problem I have a dangling so it's not up against the wall of the cage but it's about 4 inches from the floor so I'm thinking about moving it up closer to the panel

I keep my probe opposite side of my rhp. My hot side is 88 my cool side is 78 year round in Chicago burbs. Might just be luck on my end.

But what's your room temperature? I'm assuming it's in the mid low 60s that's what Bob at pro products told me my room doesn't drop that cold 68 at the coldest so I have to have it on the hot side

Well to get back to the topic. I actually just received some cages from AP along with a Pro Products RHP (PH152). It is controlled with a Herpstat and I have it set at 84.5 with it dangling along back wall under the RHP (4”-5” below). My ground temp according to my temp gun is right around the 90 degree mark give or take a degree. My house is currently kept at 76 degrees. I also have a Accurite thermometer/hygrometer on hot and cool side. Hot side says 82-84 cool side is around 79. I have noticed I can’t get this thing to regulate nearly as well as my previous set up. I could keep it to with in .3 of he target temp. With the new set up I’m getting 1 - 1.2 degree swings. I know it’s nothing to worry about but it just calls to me. It’s like the Herpstat can’t find it’s sweet spot.

I noticed that on my other cage which is 4 feet long having the probe closer to the panel and having the power percentage lowered I'm getting a better temperature so when I get home I may and try and do that with a 6-foot cage maybe having it 4 to 5 inches away from panel.. if I could hit the floor temperature of 87-89 and still accomplish the cool side 76 degrees or less I'll be happy
