1st Shed Since Purchase
I知 noticing that my ball pythons eyes are starting to look a little cloudy so I知 thinking he is getting ready to shed. How long does it normally take to shed from start to finish? Can I still handle him or will he be more temperamental? My bearded dragon seems to be quite grouchy when shedding.
thanks,

Re: 1st Shed Since Purchase
It takes roughly a week for full shed I believe. And I was told not to handle during the shedding process.

Re: 1st Shed Since Purchase
Typically a shed cycle will last about 10-14 days from start to finish. During this time in most cases, they do tend to be a bit more shy and cranky. They also may have more of a tendency to nip during the shed cycle. If you have a pretty mild tempered ball then it shouldn't be an issue. Handling should still be limited though because their skin is in a fragile state and excessive handling can stress them out.
They also may refuse feeding while while they are shedding.
Hope this helps!!

Re: 1st Shed Since Purchase
She should shed within 3-7 days (give or take) of her eyes clearing up. It depends on the snake and humidity etc. My BP usually sheds about 3 days after her eyes clear.
Some snakes are fine and others feel scared and exposed and can be defensive (when their eyes are cloudy they cannot see well in addition to the skin probably feeling uncomfortable).
All my snakes, a BP, a corn, and BCI, do fine being handled even with cloudy eyes, but I generally do not bother them unless I need to clean their tank or change water etc.
I've heard of tame/docile snakes being jumpy or even bitey when going into shed. I think it's very animal dependent, but also would not take it personally, or think a docile snake has changed, if they act different when they are going to shed.

Boop hisses when she is in shed. I don't take her out or weigh her. I feed her though since. Oth my snakes eat in shed. From pink belly to shed takes about 10-12 days.

Re: 1st Shed Since Purchase
Well had Perseus out all day. Put him back in his tank this evening for feeding and he hit it almost immediately. I知 thinking at least with the cloudy eye...he was still willing to eat. We will see next Sunday when he is further along in shed.
Thanks for all advice!
