@Kira, thanks for sharing your story and advocating for exactly what the forum is here for. Your story is a perfect example of newbies learning and then graduating to helping others to learn.
This forum is an invaluable resource for everybody from the curious onlooker considering snakes as a pet right through experienced breeders and herpotologists sharing their experiences and knowledge.
Thanks to all who make it happen!
Thank you!
Well said.
Lately, it seemed there were people giving users, and even the mods, a hard time.
I just wanted to remind everyone what a great group of users we have, who support each other and new keepers/users alike, and the mods are the glue that keep it all together.
This site is invaluable, that is exactly the word.
On another thread, I shared how I lost an iguana in 1990 (when I was 10) to calcium deficiency. He died in my arms. I didn't know any better and my parents didn't bother to learn. I didn't own reptiles again until I was an adult, and had access to the internet and sites like this, access to breeders, and people with knowledge who were willing to help.
I vowed to always be informed and do what's best for my animals and never let one die, or be sick or uncomfortable, because of something I did, or didn't do, for them.
I am still learning (we all are on some level) and am happy to keep 5 different species of happy and healthy reptiles now (7 reptiles in total) and have 5 healthy canines!
It may sound weird, but I was relieved on some level when I lost George my beardie in 2016. Hear me out. I was devastated and cried like a baby when I (with the vet) put him down. However, he was 11 and got old and sick (through seemingly no fault of my own). I did everything I could for him, but at 11, decided against surgery for pancreatitis. I didn't want to put him through it. The point is, 11 years is pretty good for a beardie and I felt that I had done everything I could for him. It was his time, not my fault.
He was the first reptile I had kept until it was his time (as opposed to losing him because of improper care).
Sad as it is, I gave George a good life, as best I could, with the help of knowledge and support I acquired from places like this.
Don't worry, it's not like I have killed countless reptiles, everyone in my care since 1990 has done quite well (well really much later than that before I kept reptiles again).
Either way, this site rocks and the users and mods make it what it is.

All of these comments brings me to humble myself to all the members and moderators along the way. All of who helped impart knowledge and different ways to look at husbandry, care, and a tempered attitude in general. I grew up here in a lot of ways through the posts, the interactions, with members and moderators, the infractions, distractions and all the thanks. Thank you all !
Stay in peace and not pieces.

I think overall BP.net is a great community and that is because of everyone that is part of this community members and staff included.
We are kind of like your typical family we are all here for one another, argue from time to time, we even have one or two dysfunctional family members at times (what family doesn’t) but overall we all make this community and have done so for 15 years this year and I will be celebrating 10 years as a staff member (I know what were they thinking right??? )

This place really is the best, and I think they made a EXCELLENT decision 10 years ago when Deborah joined the staff
The only thing that would be awesome is if we had a good chat window back. The current one is so small and hard to use that no-one hardly uses it...
It used to be fun to meet up some evenings and blabber on about our reptiles in "real time".
But I realize that this may not be possible, in large part because of being difficult to moderate..

Have you used the Full Chatbox? Link: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/misc.php?do=cchatbox
We don't prioritize the chat window though, because you are right in that it is hard to moderate.

Much easier to use, since its bigger and the text don't roll off after a few lines.
We all should make up some "play dates"
