    Thermometer reading differently?

    Hello,
Have you guys used the zoo med digital thermometer with the probe attached to it?
I have been testing my temperatures, and thermostat probe is attached to the heat tape directly. I attached my zoo med thermometer on the hot spot to measure the temp. it goes around 93.
I also have heat gun, and I pointed at the heat gun and it is reading 89~91. When I point the heat gun, I remove the tub away from heat tape and measure it right away because if I do it with heat tape at the bottom, it mixes temp with the heat tape temperature.

Should I trust my temp gun? or thermometer. Are both temperatures at the safe side? My thermometer is set to 96 at this moment, room temp is 73~75 ish without any space heater or insulation.

Digital probe is sitting on top of the glass correct and then you point the laser at the glass and it is reading 89? I would say your heat gun is correct.

temp gun keeps moving around too lol but not wide range, like I said, within 3 seconds, temp reads 89~93 degrees. Since I am opening the lid and letting the air in, it might have cool down the spot a bit, or does it not take that short to lose hot spot heat? If that is the case, hot spot might be hotter? I don't know if I am doing it right.
So basically what I am doing is, open the lid on the tub, taking out the substrate, moving tub little away from heat tape then measure it with heat gun and get 89~93 Is this the right way? could it be actually higher but lowered because I opened the lid?

You are moving the tub off the heat tape? Measure the tub without moving it off the uth. That would be an accurate reading.

but if I measure it without moving off the uth, I think it mixes up with temp of heat tape itself since plastic tubs are see through, if you get what I am saying.

We all take our temps directly on the glass without substrate and glass is very see through lol. Trust us. Leave it on the heat tape and take a temp reading.

    Thermometer reading differently?

Keep the temp 91 and under since all thermometers can be around 3° off. Its better to have the Hot Spot actually 88 rather then 94.
Also put the Laser as close as possible to what you are checking as anything between you and what you're trying to check will affect the temperature reading. Even Air.

I literally just had to explain this by showing my hubs how it all works with a clear container and a book. It won't matter that it is going through to the uth because your tub is warmed to the same temp as the uth touching it. Therefore both are the same temp.

And I didn't mean to sound snarky at all. I wasn't. I was kinda typing with a joking voice. Just didn't want you to take offense.

So these are the temp I got, Obviously I need to lower my thermostat but the thing is why is it reading differently on the one end where it says 95, 96 degrees. I do have my hide on that side so does this mean I have to measure and control the thermostat according to hide place? Rather than just middle of heat tape? I guess under the hide has 2~3 degrees higher temp.
