I have 1 BP now that is about 1 and a half feet and a little smaller than a 50 cent peice around, (fattest part) and i wanted to know if i could house a bp a bit smaller, like on that is probably the same length or probably shorter, and about the fattest size of its body a quarter or smaller. just for a month or two, until i can buy another cage for my bigger BP. btw the smaller the BP i can get the better it will be because then i can keep it in the 20 gallon cage while i move the bigger snake to a bigger cage.

The bigger Bp would probably eat the smalller one.You could buy a rubbermaid.

I would advise against it, even though there are some people that do it and never have any problems. I, personally, dont think its all that fair to the snakes making them compete for the best hide, heat, water, and physical space. This topic should give you some more information.

Where'd you get that idea? While it's a possibility, it's not a probability.

It's better to house snakes separately - bigger snakes often intimidate smaller snakes. The smaller animal would constantly be competing for the best basking spot, best hide, etc. Also, when you house two animals together, you're intentionally cross-contaminating them. If one snake is sick, the other one could easily get sick as well...if you find abnormal feces, how would you know which snake they came from? Etc. etc.

Keep them separate - makes their lives easier, which will in turn make your life easier.

in purchasing a ball python from petsmart, you are supporting them. They will continue to keep snakes huddled up if they are going to make the money. You know its sad that it works that way, but I would rather see a few bps in less then satasfactory condition for a while if it means the pet store wont buy any more.

Find out your local laws on the matter and complain to the humane society.

edit: sorry, meant Petco not Petsmart

petsmart doesnt sell reptiles -_-, but Petco does, and it is sad that they have them huddled into 1 20 gal cage, they have aroudn 10 at a time, but they all look healthy, and there cage is always clean, and i got mine from petco, and its very healthy good eater, no problems

EDIT: i really want another BP its only going to be a little over a month until i get a bigger cage for the other BP, but if you guys are all saying not to i guess i wont. i'll just wait until i get another cage and all the stuff for it.

    Pic of my daughter's BP

Yeah, I would wait too. Who knows, maybe if you do wait, a better animal will become available at that later date. Maybe kinda like "fate."

I would suggest buying frrom a breeder though. I have had 2 B{s that were from petco (though I never actually purchased them, they were "freebies." Ashes, my '03 male is from there, and he was pretty hard to establish and get feeding. He had to be dewormed and actually had mites when I received him.
A breeder might run you $30 more dollars, but in my opinion it's well worth it, especially when you buy from a reputable breeder who will not risk his following by selling you an inferior animal.

i dont have 30 more dollars, ball pythons at petco are 80 dollars. and i know of NO breeders in the area. if i could find a BP for 40 or 50 and shipping amounted to 80 id do it, but i cant find any sites with normals, its kinda annoying, all i see is morph here morph there, im trying to find a normal and i cant.
