    Can anyone identify this?

Is it mouth rot? I fed him earlier today and he ate just fine as he normally does. It concerned me though and I fed him a smaller item than normal. Usually he gets a live rat pup, but it was just a small frozen/thawed mouse today. No health issues up to this point save for a few patchy sheds. I observed him as he ate and that patch that’s in this picture extends into his mouth with a little bit of redness. Could it be that it’s the beginning of it? Rest assured that I do plan on getting him to the vet, it’s just not until Friday. Is there anything I can do in the mean time to help him out?

Thank you for the response. I’ve read that dabbing it with hydrogen peroxide helps. Would you consider that to be ok to keep it from spreading? I just need to keep it from getting extreme until Friday when I can get him to the vet. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you!

If you really want to clean it, use watered down listerine(unflavored original), is one of the recommendations I've seen.

Please do not use hydrogen peroxide. It is not an antiseptic and can cause cellular damage especially to open wounds or soft tissue. Mouth rot needs to be figured out what is causing it, properly cleaned and treated depending on the cause.

Please make a vet appointment with an exotic vet to get it properly treated.Vetricyn can be purchased from most pet stores and can clean the wound without causing tissue damage. This simply cleans, you still need to figure out the cause and treat the underlying symptoms which most likely will be a bacterial infection and will require antibiotics.

For now I would remove all decor, sanitize the cage and use paper towels until this is treated. You need to keep the cage dry and free of further infection.
