well my male bp that i purchased last sat had his first meal tonite. I tried doing the mouse dance with a pair of tongs, but he seemed more interested in trying to climb out the sides of the cages, so i just set it in his enclosure, and shut the lid. i turend the lights out and in about 10 minutes he had it in his mouth. he had it tail end first, so it took him a while, but he got it down. (is there anyway to prevent him from starting with the tail?) I think next week I'm goign to try a small rat...the mouse i gave him tonite was probably about half of his diameter at his thickest part.
i hope you guys are having a great week...tonite made my week good, but i have three tests tomorrow...uggh...time to cram..gnight all.

The way I make sure Pelota grabs head first is to heat the head real good so their heat pits pick up the heat of the rodents head. Sometimes, though, Pelota goes butt first. So what I do is wait until she's done gnawing butt, then she'll usually get bored of it and slither off of the rodent. That's when I snatch it up, put its head to the bulb of my mouse warming lamp, and offer it to her again. Usually then she'll strike right at the head and have no trouble from then on.
Oh, and yeah I'm having a decent week so far. Pelota's doing great, I'm really enjoying handling her more and more now that she's growing and she's not as delicate as before. And I found out I'll be getting a pretty nice digital camera for Christmas. Going on 20 years old, and still getting presents from Santa.

Normally they'll only eat tail first if the prey item is very small. Since it was small, there's nothing to worry about. It's only when your bp tries to swallow a large meal tail end first that you should worry.
