Frozen ASF seller? and Q about scenting

    Hello guys,

I've gotten myself into a bit of a pickle.. I ordered a package of frozen jumbo ASF to try with my "picky" feeder...that was previously only taking mice. She, of course, loved the ASF. One day she refused her meal (didn't notice she was going into shed) and I gave it to another of my BPs, who is generally a good f/t rat eater.

Now, they both want nothing to do with rats or mice... I think they're holding out on me hoping for more ASF. The problem is, I only have one frozen ASF left and the place I ordered from (south florida feeders) is not selling ASF anymore. Perfect prey also does not carry them. I've tried searching the net and have had no luck so far.

Does anyone know a seller that sells and ships frozen ASF? Unfortunately, it is illegal to own live ones in GA, where I live, or I'd set up my own colony.

Also, if anyone knows the best technique for scenting I can use, that would be great... I figure I can use my last frozen ASF to scent other prey, but am not sure about the most effective method.

Can't help you with getting more but in my experience scenting them by thawing and warming them in a plastic bag works well for me when I convert from mice to rats.
Honest, I only need one more ...

Pretty much every online seller that sold them stopped due to a lack of demand. Have not seen a single US vendor offer them in a while.

    Thanks guys!
dustin860- I may take you up on that if they continue to refuse. I'm going to try scenting with the one ASF I have left first and see if they will take mice or a small rat this week.

bcr- I will check their site and might email them to see when they expect them to be available again. Thanks!

I raised all three, ASF, Mice, and Rats. The ASF were extremely slow to produce and the growth rate was incredibly slow too (they ate very little food too). My rats and mice would crank out litter after litter and they would grow like rockets while my ASF colony seemed to be more of a colony of pets LOL. Personally I'd never go back to raising ASF again. Here at the local Colorado Repicon show last weekend there was a guy who had a table selling live ASF, he had tons of them. Not sure what the name of his business was but perhaps you can track him down and see if he ships frozen on a regular basis. Another approach would be to try feeding live rats or mice. Or if your snake is big enough you can let him fast for a month or two, that usually does the trick, just offer frozen thawed rats once a week until they accept it. Fasting for months is no big deal for a ball python (over 1000 grams).
