Ball python ingested eco earth substrate during feeding, and has some stuck in mouth!
When I was just feeding my ball python, Freya, she got a lot of loose coconut substrate stuck the pinky rat before she swallowed it, and now there's some stuck in her mouth along her teeth. I'm feeding her live, because she refuses to eat f/t, and after constricting it, while trying to swallow it, she swung it around right into the water dish, then back into the substrate multiple times, coating it with a good layer of the stuff. I wasn't sure if I should do anything about it, but now she has finished swallowing it, and is facing/extending upwards, moving her jaw open and closed.
she dirtied her water dish pretty badly, so I cleaned it out and added fresh water to see if it would help her clean it out.
will she be okay or do I need to do something to help her?

Re: Ball python ingested eco earth substrate during feeding, and has some stuck in mo
She should be fine. In the wild they get dirt and stuff in their mouth with prey all the time. I know sometimes if you have the bark substrate it can cause a blockage but the loose dirt stuff should be fine. If you want you could get a q-tip or something and use it to get the dirt that's still in her mouth

Okay, thank goodness.
After a while it looked like she got a good amount out and decided to go back into her hide.
Also I don't know if I would (or if she would) be comfortable with me holding her and swabbing out her mouth, since I've only had her for about 3 weeks, and this is her second feeding with me.
Do you know if there is anything I could do to prevent this next time? Maybe by taking out her water dish until she is done eating? She is a spider ball python so I think it may also be due to her wobble, that she flopped the rat back and forth between the water dish and out onto the substrate.

Lay down a piece of cardboard on top of the substrate and feed him over it.

And yeah doesn't hurt to take the water dish out.

She'll be fine. Happens in the wild all the time. I bet you won't be able to tell by tomorrow
