UTH Thermostat
I've been seeing that the thermostat probe should be placed between the tank and the glass I ended up buying my thermostat after the UTH was already stuck the bottom of the tank and I'm too broke to buy a new UTH(I didn't know I needed a Thermostat until after the fact) will it cause any harm if the probe is placed inside the tank? Thanks in advance for your input!

Re: UTH Thermostat
You don't want the thermostat inside the tank because the animal can move the probe or affect its reading.
I have a tank for which I had a similar situation - I partially pulled the UTH off, put the probe between the UTH and tank and then used aluminum tape to ensure the UTH was adhered back to the tank. It's not ideal, but it works.

Re: UTH Thermostat
I thought I had read that some manufacturers suggested against aluminum tape on heaters. I wasn't willing to risk damaging my heater to pry it up. You can attach the thermostat probe to the outside of the uth and it will work fine. You may just have to check the temp and adjust the settings on the thermostat to get the right temp. I didn't have to adjust mine at all with it attached to the back of the heater instead of between it and the glass. I found other heat resistant tape on Amazon and taped the probe wire to the uth right at the probe.
