    Reliable thermometer

Just picked up a herpstat 4 and I'm trying to get my temps dialed in with 4 different temp readings.
Looking for an accurate reliable thermometer

This is the same problem Im having right now. Every single thermometer is different.I have the yellow ones and the Walmart ones.I trust the herpstat probe the most.Ive actually been wondering if my temp gun is off as well..The Walmart ones are all different by about 4 degrees. Its very frustrating.

i definitely trust the herpstat probe.

i like to mount the probe up out of the way the snakes,
without excess cord showing, using existing openings for a cleaner look
and where it cant get a false reading i.e. spilled water bowl
the probe reading isnt in the "hot spot"
so i use a thermometer to check temps and adjust the herpstat accordingly

dont know if that makes complete sense to everyone but its worked for me
ive trusted my thermometers never thinking to compare temps

what thermometers are most accurate and how can i check accuracy of the temp readings?

    Thanks Kirk

That s what I do as well. My probe is hanging off the back wall and the thermometer probe is on the hot spot. But the only reliable temp(I hope) is the temp gun. My temp gun is 12 years old though, a Pro Exotics brand.I dont know how long a life they have

    Re: Reliable thermometer

I have had very good luck with these from pangea, and these from amazon. The latter have a tunable hygrometer which you can calibrate using commercial or home made salt tests.
