I recently built a wood enclosure for the little one and was wondering how many people have found wood enclosures better/worse than traditional glass or the renaissance Rubbermaid enclosures. I'm thinking in terms of heat and humidity and what not, more than aesthetic appeal.

Enclosure Opinion
Unless the wood has been treated, the wood is going to eventually have to be replaced as moisture can start to rot it over time. I've never had any experience with taking readings from a wood enclosure though. Might want to try plexiglass or something for the sides.

I have not had a wood enclosure but I would think it very hard for one to match tupperware for temp/humidity retention - not to mention all the other caveats you'd have to watch out for with wood. Of course you DO get custom sizing, likely more secure closure and aesthetics (assumption). What's your take?

I have built tons or wood enclosures in the past , and they are great for retaining heat and humidity as long as you can find some way to properly seal the wood your fine . before I switched to building my cages from 1/2" pvc I was useing 3/4' birch plywood lined with formica which worked well but over all I wont go back from my plastic as I can practically let it rain in my pvc cages and it holds heat just as well as wood

Where do you get the pvc from? That sounds like a good idea, as we here will be building a few custom cages soon.

I buy mine from a major plastics supplier in bulk .. your best bet to find it local is through signage suppliers or fabricators
