Without a thermostat! What to do?

While I'm waiting to get the money to buy a thermostat or a temp controlled mat, what should I do to keep Pua heated? He was given to me with just the heat pad but it rises to 100+ degrees and i think it's warping the plastic tub a little. I have the tub propped up on some large ratchet hole things now, which clears the tub off the ground above the pad a little bit. I don't know how effective this is, but I just don't want to leave Pua with out any heat! Anything else I could do? Maybe something to put between the tub and the mat while I get paid tomorrow and find whether it's cheaper to buy a stat from petco or online? Or any other suggestions? Pua himself is fine for now, no burns or anything. I've only had him a few days so that's why

Put him in the warmest room of the house with no heat pad for now. Jumpstart thermostats are fairly cheap and will do the job for now. Someone on here or Fauna is selling a VE100 for 50 shipped.

    Unplug the uth.

The tstats at Petco suck. I say save up for a nice Herpstat.

Until then I would use a heat lamp. A bulb and fixture are fairly cheap and easy to use. I recommend suspending it with a lamp stand. Using a stand keeps the lamp away from the tub so you have no danger of melting it. It also gives you the ability to control the amount of heat going to the tub by increasing or decreasing the distance between the fixture and the tub.

I have hated a tub this way many times. It is easy to set up but is easiest if you have a IR temp gun.

How long are we talking til you can afford a decent thermostat?
Can you swing $30 for a temporary one that will get you through the next few months at least?

I'm not having a go at you but it winds me up when people get a snake and all the equipment but the thermostat the thermostat is a must and one of the most important things to have I'd advise to get one asap even if it's just the cheapest one you can get to put you on

You either leave the heat unplugged until you get a RELIABLE thermostat (which with your embient temp of 70 could create some issues and make it inadvisable to feed your animal during that time), or you provide heat and control it TEMPORARILY with this https://www.amazon.com/Lutron-TTCL-1...lutron+dimmers

Can be found at lowes and home depot as well. This is a temporary measure as in most cases the temps will fluctuate with the room temps, however by lowering the power it will allow you to avoid spikes.

A thermostat is a pretty vital piece of equipment. One that you don't want to be without for long at all. Hydrofarm makes a relatively inexpensive but reliable thermostat. I've used these for years without issues.

I'll have enough money today, since it's Payday🤑 But whether or not I get from Petco or online is the only issue. I'm not sure whether Petco has reliable tstats, and if not, then I'd have to order it online and have to wait for it to deliver

It's a whole lot cheaper online, probably be cheaper to over night it than buy from Petco.
You'd have to check Petco and amazon online and see

    They don't. They offer junk.

Herpstat ships quick and had mine to me in two days.
