    Aspen Bedding Recommendation

I want to try a new aspen brand. I've been using ZooMed and, although I have no issues with it, I think I can get something equivalent or better for less. Any suggestions?

I know this isn't Aspen but I love Reptichip. Goes way further. Less mold and hold humidity great. For difference in the price to amount you get, it's way cheaper . Just my opinion though.

I use Reptichip for some of my snakes. For others I prefer aspen.

i switched to coco husks but still use aspen for my smaller tubs and colubrids. i buy the big (24 quart bags i think) of Zoomed shredded aspen. previously i also used chipped aspen bedding by Kaytee or Living World (whatever was available or on sale). sometimes i mixed the shredded and chipped for a more textured substrate. anyway i always bought from my local mom and pop pet shop but i think u can buy them in bigger bulk sizes at Tractor Supply or other garden, farming, hardware store and such.

I've use ReptiChips, Eco Earth and all that stuff and i still went back to aspen. it has worked for me for years.

With that said, I use American Excelsior but Bean Farm no longer carries it so no more driving out there to get a few bails at a time. I've been told Teklad is a good brand. I've also used the Zoo Med stuff which i honestly like the best as it seems the softest but also the most expensive. Once my last bail of American Excelsior runs out, I'll have to find me a new source Worst case, I'll have to just order like 20 of the 24 qt bags of Zoo Med stuff from some place like Chewy.

That's exactly what I use aspen for -- my smaller snakes and colubrids.

    Re: Aspen Bedding Recommendation

Appreciate the responses. Sounds like ZooMed isn't half bad then for aspen. I honestly like it, just thought there may be an equivalent product for less. I've seen the 24qt bag on Amazon for $14, I'll have to shop around and see if any place else has it cheaper.

From all the different types of aspen I've tried, Zoo Med is hands down the best. It is finely shredded, soft and my snakes love burrowing in it. The downside is that it is also the most expensive of all the aspens. Nice thing though with aspen for me at least is i can usually go a couple months or more with my boas as like i said, its easy to spot poops and pisses and it sticks to the stuff so you can just scope out a nice clump and then F10SC the spot and spread the aspen thinner across it. I do that until there isn't enough aspen to spread , then i just throw it all out.
