BP perfect enclosure

Hi all,

I'll be fast on this one, I am starting a project to make the perfect functional enclosure for my female BP, and I want to know what would be the perfect size for the rest of her life.

Not small, not oversized, not too tall, not too short.

Right now I have her on a 30"Lx12"Wx12"H, 20L tank.

The biggest tank they need if you're going with an aquarium is a 40 gal.

I'm from the train of thought that says if they have the room, they will use it. Obviously, they will spend the vast majority of their time in their hides. However, they do tend to explore a bit at night and occasionally during the day, so why not offer some room to explore if you have it? Just keep in mind they still need to feel secure, though. Of course, the bigger you go, the more you will have to maintain, the more substrate, more heating/humidity room, etc... So I guess it's up to you and how much time and money you want to invest into building and maintaining the enclosure. Keep in mind the entry will play a factor in function ability as well. For example, if you are accessing the enclosure from above, a taller enclosure is a pain to get in and out of for daily water changes/spot cleaning, etc.. If you're going with a front entry, this will eliminate some of that (prob why AP and the other PVC makers use front entries).

Ok here is the progress, I contacted the PVC provider, it will be 1/2"thick black. Final measures are 48"Wx24"Lx18"H. plus 5.5" of false bottom to put hidden pots. I want it to be a bioactive enclosure.



To be able to clean it with ease, the bottom box will be separated from the sides, the sides will have at the bottom a 3/16" slot all around to seal with the bottom with an O-ring and 4 of this pressure latches.


The front glass will open upwards with this hinges.


And final touch I will instal a pair of side handles to carry it with ease.


Well it's time to go shopping and get my hands dirty.

How will you heat this? I'm assuming with the false bottom that belly heat is out.

Also does bioactive work with a snake as big as a ball python? That's a large amount of poop to degrade into the soil. I'm seriously asking since I'm not familiar with using bioactive with snakes only amphibians.

I guess I stretched the bioactive term, I meant it would just have live plants, the soil will be on the pots. So the bottom box would be hollow. On top of it I will still use regular substrate.

For heating I will glue a heating cable inside the hollow box, I guess the left side will be my hot spot.

Heehee...I like the stretched bioactive term. Live plants are always nice, easy clean live plants even more so.
