New Breeder Need Help
Hello everyone.
im interested in starting some small breeding with 4 breeding pairs to start out with. As far as racks, what would you guys recommend I use? Is there a way to build my own or is it best to buy a rack online? Also, I'm kinda paranoid about burning my house down lol..so which thermostat would you guys recommend. Money isn't a problem. And how many heat pads would I be able to hook up to this thermostat to regulate the heat of all of the pads.
thanks! Appreciate it.

If u buy or build a rack u wouldn't use heat pads .. u would use heat tape or the rack u purchase would come with heat tape already installed and u can just plug into thermostat. If refer u to tallgrassreptiles.com dudes name is eric he has nice racks shipped assembled all u need to do is buy a therm . U can go with a herpstat there good thats all ive used

Re: New Breeder Need Help
If you decide to build your own start with the tubes and build the rack around there dimensions. I built my own 12 tube rack for under $200 not including the thermostat and it's awesome. I bought the materials at home depot, heat tape at reptile basics, and the heat tape connectors/wiring plug on e-bay because they were cheaper.

Do you already have the snakes you plan to breed?

I would hope you are already keeping and understand the husbandry before you decide to try to produce a bunch of animals that you might get stuck with....

I was kinda wondering the same thing. It seems if you are planning on breeding 4 pairs of snakes, you should already have the animals, the enclosures, and YEARS of experience. Asking questions about the rack system or heating pads when discussing breeding concerns me a bit, but I could be wrong and way off here...

Re: New Breeder Need Help
i've been working with snakes for 6 years now..just never got into the entire breeding thing. i've kept all sorts of snakes from milk snakes to garter snakes to cornsnakes and obviously to ball pythons. i'm just now wanting to get into breeding which is why I have these questions. I already have the snakes to do the breeding I've just never kept a snake rack before. I don't want to accidently burn my house down with the heat tape so I guess I just have questions on what size heat tape I should be using that's the safest. I've already purchased the herpstat 2 after doing lots of research last night and it sounds like a great thermostat.

There is not one with of heat tape safer than the other, what matters is that it is properly wired and controlled.
A 4 inches strip running the with of the tub in the back is sufficient in most cases.
